What Peyton Manning said about Arch Manning committing to Texas

Peyton Manning can understand why his nephew, 5-star quarterback Arch Manning, decided to end the recruiting process early and commit to Texas. Peyton Manning was also a coveted recruit in the early 1990s.

“The relationships you make in high school just don’t go away,” Peyton told reporters Friday at the Manning Passing Academy. “That’s why I’m glad for his sake that he made this decision. I did have a conversation with him last week after he made his last visit, because he asked about when I made my decision.

“I just remember when I got back from my last visit, I basically announced where I was going two days later because I knew. When you know, you know and there’s no point in dragging it out and creating some drama.”

Before embarking on an 18-season Hall of Fame career in the NFL, Peyton Manning was a star quarterback at Tennessee. He became one of the greatest players in program history, leading the Vols to the 1997 SEC Championship and runner-up for the Heisman Trophy.

With Texas joining the SEC as early as 2025, Arch Manning will have the opportunity to play against Tennessee as well as Ole Miss where his uncle Eli and grandfather Archie were star quarterbacks.
